New Zealand is a land with beautiful native birds, that many of which live nowhere else in the world. In this colourful creation, Tu Meke Tūī! by Malcolm Clarke and Flox, you’ll meet an energetic Tūī and a fearless Takahē. Tūī is looking for a friend and introduces herself to Takahē who is rustling through the undergrowth. Though the pair are different, a friendship blooms. Tūī shares her talent for flying and Takahē, after an encounter with a sly stoat, shows courage and concern for his new friend. The story ends with a bold display of fluttering feathers and birdsong.
Aerosol and stencil artist Flox, the illustrator of Tu Meke Tūī! also brought beauty to this once blank wall that is the backdrop of our photo. Her work is instantly recognisable because of the care and flare that goes into each piece. Tu Meke Tūī! is a well designed, bold, rhyming read aloud, that showcases the remarkable talent of a contemporary artist and the striking and playful wildlife that call NZ home.
