Words cannot express how beautiful this book is, well, not my words anyway. Jackie Morris takes my breath away. The illustrations were brought to life before the words. They were Christmas cards. Characters move between illustrations, go and come back again, “as if returning from a journey.” A surreal, dreamlike narrative, with cats as horses, polar bears in boats, and music in every scene.
“The book is a harbour in which to rest, a catalyst for the imagination, and the stories are a series of lullabies for grown-ups.” And big kids. Mine are captivated. From the first line, I know you will be too. “Listen. In the still cold air of the early morning there would be only silence, but for the quiet music of falling snow.”
